Animal and inorganic inclusions in Amber

Amber is a treasure trove for paleontologist research. The body of transparent resin has preserved mummified animals as inclusions from 40 million years ago. Sticky and tacky resin became a trap for insects, arachnid, and even lizards. This is one of the main reasons why Baltic amber jewelry is so much different from other jewelry stones. Animal inclusions found are mostly insects which were trapped as sticky resin worked well in protecting plants from pests. It allows scientists to describe and identify flora and fauna of those times. If to compare currently existing species to the species which are in the inclusion morphologically, you can trace evolution of living organisms. Amber gemstone is not strictly speaking a stone at all, but is a fossilized resin. Beautiful jewelry made from it resembles gemstones, so it is sold as a gemstone. Amber is popular as it has marvelous metaphysical properties for psychic protection. Considering that amber originated from plant sap exuded in environments where other plants abounded, it has been observed that such plants are comparatively rare inclusions. Luckily, there are some breathtaking exceptions.

Baltic amber is also home to inorganic inclusions, such as air bubbles that can be seen with the naked eye, sometimes of considerable size, with walls that are cleared or covered with degraded materials. There can also be bubbles that are filled with water. Both water and air are though to have remained in the bubbles from the time amber was formed and therefore are the subject of research. Discovered more and more often, resins with inclusions such as Baltic amber are of special importance to palaeoentomology. Moreover, that’s one of not so many species which is used for jewelry that is special, inimitable just one of its kind. There are no two identical pieces of amber, hence all the bracelets will be constructed of different lumps of amber yet with the same project intention. Baltic amber due to its transparency perfectly absorbs the light and in combination with silver, it gently corresponds with every type of skin.
